| Tuesday 16 December 2014FJN and all the Pan-African Jews wish a joyous holiday of Chanukah to the Jewish World
The Festival of Lights, is an opportunity to pay tribute to the entire Jewish people in memory of a miracle occurred in the Temple of Jerusalem, destroyed by the Syrians in 646 before our era.
Hanukkah has a strong symbolic meaning for African Jews since long forgotten and it’s for us the occasion to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, literally and figuratively. To celebrate the miracle of the flask of oil, the custom is that we light a candle for festival day, making a total of 8 candles.
