Pesach 5774 in Zimbabwe

Nearly 120 members of the Lemba Jewish community of Mapakomhere and Harare Lemba Synagogue, Zimbabwe, were at the traditional Pesach (Passover) Seder which took place on Monday, April 14 and Sunday April 20th, in Harare and in Mapakomhere respectively.
The Seders, which were sponsored by kulanu, were conducted by Guershon Nduwa and Modreck Maeresera
As part of the preparation for the upcoming Seder, Sandy Leeder and Guershon Nduwa provided the traditional Pesach items.
Kosher Matzah, wine, Passover Haggadahs (traditional book used on Passover that explains the order of the Seder), which were prepared in Hebrew and Shona, Kosher for Passover cakes, traditional red horseradish, and traditional Charoset (a sweet, dark-colored paste made of fruits and nuts eaten at the Passover Seder).
Kulanu helps Lemba’s groups to return to the Jewish identity.
Modreck and Rabson are working to strengthen ties with local Lemba Jewish community.
« We are proud and excited to organize this historic event, » Modreck said. « Lemba Jewish descendants are a living link between them and the Jewish people over the world, and it is very moving to see the remnants of this community returning to their Jewish roots as they prepare for Passover, » he added.
