A new rabbi elected to the chief rabbinate for the Ethiopian community


Rabbi Reuven Wabst was born on 1 July 1970 in Gondar, Ethiopia. At the age of two, his parents immigrated to Israel and settled in Ramle. He received his elementary education in Ramle, where he studied at the Neve Yitzhak school in the morning and in the afternoon, in the Etz Chaim, the Talmud Torah school. He completed his secondary studies at Yeshiva Bnei Akiva. He completed his secondary studies at Yeshivat Bnei Akiva. In 1989, he joined the IDF as part of his studies at Yhit Hesder Yeshiva and served as a fighter in the famous Golani Brigade.
Later, he was trained as a military chaplain and attended a senior officer’s course. He graduated with honors. In the yeshiva, he was influenced by Rabbi Ya’akov Ariel, whom he considers his Master.
He succeeds this position of decision-maker to Rabbi Yosef Hadane. The FJN wishes him Mazal tov.
